Overview

About Madoc

Madoc is a village in the Municipality of Centre Hastings, at the junction of Highways 7 and 62 southeast of Bancroft. Founded in 1832 as MacKenzie's Mills — named for Donald MacKenzie's sawmill and grist mill — it was briefly called Hastings before taking the name of Madoc Township, itself named for the legendary Welsh prince. In horse-and-carriage days it was the halfway stop between Toronto and Ottawa.

Why Buyers Choose Madoc

Mining built Madoc. Gold was discovered at nearby Eldorado in 1866, fluorite was extracted through the 1930s and 1940s, and the Canada Talc mine operated for more than a century. The O'Hara Mill Homestead preserves a rare water-powered upright frame sawmill. Today the village offers a full set of small-town services: shops, three schools, the Tri Area Medical Centre, an arena, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, and a skate park with splash pad and arts centre.

Property Types

Village homes, rural properties on the outskirts, and farmland edges. Madoc suits buyers wanting small-town services with country quiet — and commuters heading south toward the Quinte region.

Nearby

Bancroft is about 45 minutes north on Highway 62, Tweed and the Highway 7 corridor run east-west, and Moira Lake is close by for muskie, bass, and pickerel fishing.
