About Eels Lake
Eels Lake takes its name from Eel Cow, an Ojibwe chieftain who claimed the surrounding land as family hunting and fishing territory in the early 1800s. It's one of the larger lakes in the corridor between the Kawarthas and the Haliburton Highlands.
The lake's many islands and bays create a lot of varied shoreline and habitat, and it's known regionally for high water clarity — Secchi depth readings typically run 4 to 6 metres.

Eels Lake carries a natural lake trout population alongside smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, and yellow perch. Slot-size limits and winter ice fishing restrictions are in place specifically to protect the lake trout fishery, so it's worth checking current regulations before keeping fish.
